Program Description - Today’s security environment includes a wide range of multi-dimensional threats; economic, environmental and criminal activity; terrorist attacks; undesirable military activity; failed and failing states; piracy and robbery at sea; proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and critical infrastructure vulnerability, both domestically and abroad. Dealing with this security environment requires an awareness of the maritime domain; often referred to as Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) or Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA). The challenge of achieving MDA is of a particular concern to the Five Eye nations: the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand and other allied nations. Consequently, there is a real need for the military operational research and analysis community to provide the necessary analytic support to ensure that MDA generation efforts mature in support of our national objectives.

The MORS Analytic Support for Marine Domain Awareness (MDA) Special Meeting has been convened to advance time-constrained solutions to these issues with the intent to inform the sponsor, as well as to foster wider analytic communities of interest that could engage formally or informally in collaborative follow-on studies or methodological developments.

This MORS meeting is an outreach event of TTCP Maritime Systems, Action Group 8. The meeting will focus on addressing operational problems and issues as they pertain to the following example areas; critical infrastructure protection, intelligence support to MDA, policy and law, analysis to support requirements, analysis to support resource allocation, expert systems/decision aids and analysis to support system operations.

Leveraging resources from the Five-Eye nations, the meeting will bring together operators and analysts specializing in a variety of OR applications and associated datasets that can be used to provide insight and discipline to the MDA process in a classified environment.

Your participation contributes to the vital importance of national security operations research. Please review the event information in the links below and register soon.
